Jeffersonville Canal District Rendering

The team in charge for planning the Jeffersonville Canal released a nice looking rendering of what the project might look like during their last meeting. In the rendering you can see the proposed convention center right next to Court Street. It also shows the Indiana approach to the Big Four Bridge. Once completed the Canal District in Jeff will feature 1,100 housing units, a 225-room hotel, 30,000 square feet of office space and 165,000 square feet of retail space. According to Jeffersonville's "One Great Community" magazine, going to the International Council of Shopping Centers trade show generated lots of interest in the retailing community.

Louisville's Cardinal Towne Tops Off One Corner

The Cardinal Towne condo/retail development near the campus of U of L is coming along nicely. Crews have pretty much topped off at the corner of Fourth street and Cardinal Blvd. On this side they've finished the four stories. Going east along Cardinal Blvd, you can see that there's still a lot of work to be done as only three floors are complete. For more on the project go to:

Louisville's newest Forever 21 now in business

The Mall St. Matthews latest addition has just opened its doors. After more than three years of vacancy, clothing store chain Forever 21 relocated into parts of the former Dillard's department store. Even though the chain already owned a smaller store near the food court, it now operates a more than 10 times bigger store across the mall. According to an older Business First article, the chain invested more than $3.3 million into its 109,000 square feet store.

Coyle Commons Open For Business

Right next to the new Buffalo Wild Wings and Rite Aid on Veteran's Parkway in Clarksville you can find a small new strip mall. It's all part of Coyle Commons, aptly named after the neighboring car dealership. The area next to the car lot was supposed to be part of its expansion plans, but once real estate prices shot up, it was more lucrative to create more retail space. Coyle did expand though. Their new building is a refurbished building near the Outback Steakhouse in Clarksville.

Coyle Commons main tenant is a Verizon Store. The other spaces are still vacant. It also housed the Buffalo Wild Wings hiring office during the restaurant's construction. It has since been vacated again.

Shelbyville Plaza Construction Update

Over at Shelbyville Plaza near Mall St. Mathews exterior construction of the addition has been completed. Workers are currently working on the interior of a couple new restaurants. As I have mentioned earlier, Jason's Deli as well as Buffalo Wild Wings will set up shop over here. BW3's will be moving here from there other St. Mathew location.

Even though the Plaza is adding new square footage, a lot of the older buildings at the site are currently looking for tenants. There's the old Wild Oats space and Linens'n'Things is going out of business. Circuit City is on not so stable legs nationally, so they might vacate their space as well. Then there are a bunch of empty store fronts in the back of the development leading up to Jo Ann's Fabric store.

Shively Center's Total Makeover

If you have driven by the Shively Center on Dixie Hwy and the Shawnee Exp lately you can see that it has gotten a total makeover. After Dillard's department store closed in 2007 the center was in desperate need for an anchor tenant. The city really wanted to locate a Kohl's store down here, but that never came to fruition. Eventually they found one in a Norton's Primary care facility. It will also include a obstetric and gynecologic practice. The city estimates daily visits to be about 21,000. It is scheduled to open sometime in the winter of 08/09.

The buildings next to the former Dillard's part are also getting a major overhaul. As you can see in the picture it will look very different from what it used to look. It currently houses Weightwatcher's and Kort Physical Therapy. All the other stores that used to be here have moved out. That is also true for the Mexican restaurant at the end of the old strip mall.

Jeffersonville's Beef'o'Bradys now open

Jeffersonville Town Center's first merchant is now open for business. The Beef'O'Brady's restaurant chain opened its doors for the first time last Monday. After years and years of planning, and trying to rent out a completed building, this marks a milestone in the history for the town center. As you can see in the picture, the L&N Federal Credit Union also has their "Coming Soon" sign up, so they are well on their way to being the second tenant in the shopping center.

New Shelbyville Road Plaza Buildings Taking Shape

The new retail buildings at Shelbyville Road Plaza are taking shape. The future home of a Jo Ann Fabric and Craft store, the first in Louisville, looks almost complete. Other tenants will include a Buffalo Wild Wings and a Jason's Deli. The Buffalo Wild Wings will move there from Saint Matthews Station just down the road. The Jason's Deli restaurant is kind of a riddle to me. It already has a store on Hurstbourne near Shelbyville Rd. I don't understand why they want two stores so close together, even though their food is pretty awesome.

Jeffersonville Town Center Update

Jeffersonsville Town Center is getting pretty close to celebrate its first tennant's grand opening. The work at the new Beef'o'Brady's location has been steady ever since the city and the developer held their big press conference a couple of weeks ago. Work for the new bank, on the other hand, seems to be kind of slow. At least I haven't seen much done over there.

On the other side of the street from the first building, work has also begun on the roads leading into that phase of the JTC, which now will feature medical offices. Work on the offices has not started yet.
